May 26^th, 2010 marked Tau kappa Epsilon’s 71^st year on Drexel’s campus. The fraters of Alpha Tau celebrated the event by handing out carnations as well as cards to all sororities, the head of fraternity and sorority life at Drexel, and the Drexel Police. Once again, the brothers of Tau Kappa Epsilon hosted an American Red Cross blood drive at the TKE house. The event was a great success. 89 volunteers came to the house to potentially donate blood, which resulted in the American Red Cross collecting 54 units of blood. 54 units of blood has the potential to save about 162 lives. These are great numbers and we were glad to help. Not only did we have a great turnout of donators, but 40 volunteers also aided the Red Cross in their collection efforts, half of which were brothers of TKE.

On May 15, 2010, the Alpha Tau chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon showed their support for the Ni Una Mas campaign. The event was put together to help raise awareness for the women of Juarez. Since 1993, around 700 women have been raped and murdered in this small city right across the border from El Paso, Texas. Using Art to raise awareness, Drexel and other local organizations came together for an Art March on May 15. The march was from the Drexel Armory to the Pearlstein Gallery where different artwork was on display.

The brothers of Tau Kappa Epsilon had been helping out with the campaign since it began at Drexel. Working together, we helped the leaders of the campaign promote the event to our fellow peers at Drexel University. Not only were the brothers committed to promoting the event, but almost 90% of our chapter took part in the march to show our support. The Alpha Tau Chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon would like to thank everyone who showed support in this successful event. It was truly a great event for a great cause.

Alumni Cocktail Party 2010

On Saturday, May 1^st, the brothers of Tau Kappa Epsilon, Alpha Tau chapter, held their biennial alumni cocktail party. The weekend’s activities

 not only included Saturday’s party, but an alumni golf outing that Friday.

 

Saturday’s festivities began around 7pm. The night started with dinner as well as an award ceremony. The award ceremony included fraters

Michael Angelos, Matthew Schreffler, and Sung Jo winning leadership scholarships. The second undergraduate award was presented to Erik Gary for the most improved frater. Rich Brancaleone was presented with Alumnus of the year for his hard work and dedication to the Alpha Tau chapter.

After the awards were presented and dinner ended, the fun began. Fraters, alumni, and guests alike all took part in great stories of years past, dancing, and an all around great evening to be a part of. The current fraters of the Alpha Tau chapter would like to thank the alumni and their guests for making the 2010 Alumni Cocktail Party a night to remember.

After a disappointing 2008 season, losing to our archrivals in the semi-finals, TKE looked to return to the field in 2009 a better team.  During the off season, many changes were made, the biggest being the starting quarterback.  Continuous practice in conjunction with great talent left the team feeling confident for a great season.  The team went 6-0 during the regular season with a huge win over archrivals and a final score of 19-6.  In the semi-finals, we again played our archrivals and won in stunning fashion with a touchdown pass as the clock hit 00:00, winning 12-6.  The following day we played in the final, beating the opponent 13-7, again with a touchdown on the final play of overtime. Football is the second major sport we have brought back the championship along with an undefeated season and we look to do the same with basketball.

The office of Fraternity and sorority life along with members of Drexel’s Greek community, Drexel administration and the DU police gathered together at the Tau Kappa Epsilon house for a Holiday dinner to benefit the children at St.Christophers Hospital through the Toys for Tots program. Members from each chapter not only provided a holiday dish to share but also contributed by either donating a toy or cash donation. In total, the event raised more than $300 and all proceeds went directly to Toys for Tots.
